Webfiction Wednesday #15

Posted by A.M.Harte on Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

Webfiction Wednesdays are your chance to spread the word about your favourite online stories. Join in on the fun!

Highlights

As I mentioned in the editorial, there doesn’t seem to be much romance webfiction, and of the romance that exists, much of it is paranormal — just as fantasy and science fiction dominate webfiction as a whole. If you look at ebook-only releases, however, you’ll find a broader range of genres. An interesting development!

One new discovery I came across when searching for stories was the amusing historical romance Purity’s Choice by Amy Lee, a silly story of romance, friendship and adventure.

Beyond these, I’ve listed a couple romantic stories — or stories with strong romantic sublots — that you may be interested in checking out.

  • Dead Boyfriend by Seth Gray, a vampire hunter and a vampire… enemies, or lovers?
  • Strange Little Band by Nancy Brauer and Vanessa Brooks, two psychics, one megacorp, all-round bad behavior.
  • Breathless by V.J. Chambers, Jason races into Azazel’s life, sweaty, tortured, and hunted by covert forces….

Any recommendations to add to the list?

Ember is a really well-done romance. (http://www.bettiesharpe.com/reads/ember.php) It's based on the Cinderella story, and I couldn't put it down!

    Thanks for mentioning Breathless!
  • Seth Gray
    Hey, thanks for the rec!
  • Addergoole (http://www.addergoole.com) and 314 Crescent Manor (http://314crescentmanor.wordpress.com) have quite a bit of romance in them. And they're both excellent. :)

Thanks for including Strange Little Band on the list!

Re: Romance Web Stories. "The Surprising Life and Death of Diggory Franklin" by Gavin Williams has a strong dose of romance, although I wouldn't classify it as a romance per se.
  • I'd recommend Crank by Pia Veleno. It's gay romance with some vampires thrown into the mix. I'm not a big fan of the vampire/vampire hunters storyline, but I really like the relationship the 2 main characters are developing, so I keep reading despite the vampires :p
