| Welcome to week four of Webfiction Wednesday, giving you the week’s highlights in recommendations and reviews.
Thrilling times at topwebfiction.com this week. The battle for the first spot is still fought the hard way, resulting in Above Ground claiming the first spot. Last week’s number one, Intimate History, stumbled down to 4th spot. The Vector dropped out of the top 5, leaving room for Space and Time by Sharon T. Rose. It should be noted that the difference between the first and seventh spot is a mere 10 points. If your favorite story is missing from the top 5, you should make sure to vote for it daily! The following post is divided into three parts:
******
“The most fun you can have with a bonnet on.”
Jan says: I’m a huge Austen fan. Always been and probably always will. Pride & Prejudice is probably my favorite, though I’ve always had a thing for Northanger Abbey too. I absolutely loathed Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and almost found it blasphemy. This sequel to the famous story works for me though. I think it has to do with the nifty image, and the fact that Elizabeth calls her husband Fitzy.
“…dark secrets and mysteries from the past haunt the land of Alisiya, and dreams turn to nightmares as the two become entangled in a feud that has spanned decades. In order to survive they must change who they are—to each other, to themselves, and to the worlds.”
Anna says: This is an oldie, but it’s also definitely a goodie. I’ve only read the first few chapters so far, but the prose is beautiful, the characters flawed and real, and I’m also having website envy.
Note: this is only a selection of the tweeted recommendations. Search on Twitter every Wednesday to get the full list.
This week we got new participants for #WebFicWed from people within the Virtual Series sphere. We believe online scripts are webfiction too, so we’d like to welcome them to our webfiction celebration. Pete Gaskell recommended MZP-TV for everyone interesed in online scripted series. Below are some more specific recommendations.
Spireclaw by Huw Langridge was reviewed by Fiona who finds it a well-written but weird mystery. She got so caught up by “the eerie and evocative athmosphere” that she read through all 29 chapters in one sitting.
Hawk on the other hand found Eikasia by Illise Montaya hard to pull away from, because of its “many memorable moments”.
Shutsumon gave Touched by Zoe E. Whitten four out of five stars for the “great sense of time and place” and “the well drawn, three-dimensional and immensely enjoyable characters”.
