Fresh Fiction Discoveries
The hidden kitchen by Michael J. Lee
Food is magic, chefs are magicians, and a young boy is in trouble.
Jan says: Don’t let the basic wordpress theme fool you, this is fairly solid webfiction. The story has a sad theme, homeless children, one that hasn’t been touched upon in webfiction a lot before. I’m curious to see where it will go.
Uninvoked by Andrea M. Bodel
Amy is carving a name for herself as a world class snoop. Want dirt on the governor’s daughter? Amy’s got it covered. Information on the Duke’s enemies? Fees apply. Facts on the Stronghold Assassins? Well, no. You’ll have to hire a hero for that.
Anna says: Uninvoked looks like a promising YA serial. The writing is solid, and the premise an intriguing reversal of standard fantasy: Amy, the main character, is a girl without magic in a world where it seems every other person has it.
